Well I took the boys to see Eragon at the base theater on Friday night. Before we get to the movie let me just make a few notes on behavior at movie theaters. First if you have an infant in a car seat who cannot situp and watch and enjoy the movie HIRE A BABYSITTER!!!! I do not want to hear a baby cry throughout the movie. Also if you are already bringing an infant to the theater at least have the courtesy to turn off your cell phone or leave it at home!!! Do some people just say hey lets see how annoying we can be in the theater to ruin everyone else's movie time. Also all you little teens and pre teens it is not proper movie theater behavior to get up 8 or 9 times during a movie to run to the lobby, the only excuse for this is a flu bug and if you are sick STAY HOME!!!!
Now the movie. While it was not exactly as the book they did a nice job and the battle scene near the end was pretty cool for special effects. A fun movie and enjoyed by the kids too overall. I do have a problem with how they portrayed some of the characters in the movie though. First Arya in the story is an Elf. Yes pointed ears and all. I mean would it have taken that much to put some pointy ears on her? Then the Urgals, nasty beasties who unite behind the evil king, they are not humans in the book at all more like Minotor's large with horns on their heads. Then the Varden live with the dwarfs but one problem none of the characters in the dwarf city were dwarves. You just shouldn't change things that are so vital in the story if you can't do it right then hey don't do it at all.
I will have another post which will deal with Arya as a character and reflect on the lead female character from the DaVinci Code as well coming shortly. There are just some things I don't seem to get.
